In a Dictionary
In a dictionary thirty years old
I found a four-leaf clover
between two definitions deep in the c's
it did not press well
And like a shirt badly ironed, its leaves,
two of which dried together,
have creased, and it does not
appear lucky at all
Those words hold years of such luck,
and stuck to some faded page
there is a clover picked once
when I stepped from a car
Found it growing at my toe
and happened to look down,
happened
not to crush it
